8 Dirty Little Pageant Secrets

Let me preface this article by saying there are many legitimate pageant systems with incredible reputations that have been putting on wonderful shows for many years. With that being said; on the other hand, there are a few secrets that we have all learned over the years about things that can happen, things that do happen and things we have heard about.

Here are a few we have all experienced at the Pageant Planet:

1. Judges are not that concerned about your platform. If you are the total package they are looking for this will not keep you from winning the crown. Conversely if you have the most amazing platform at the pageant but are not what the judges are looking for, you will most likely not win.

2. Rules can be optional at times. Rules are guidelines that should be followed. We all know there are people who have not followed the “rules” and still won. The judges have the option to deduct points as they see fit and do not have to deduct points for a rule that is not followed. If a girl is a top pick for the judges, they may not deduct points from her score. She can do anything short of falling off the stage and she still might win.

3. Some girls are so absorbed with wining they will get plastic surgery to win a title. Yes, we all know this does happen on occasion in pageantry. What you feel you need to do is up to you. We do not recommend you do this; however, some have gone to this extreme. Remember, most titles only last for a year and you have to live with it after your reign.

4. At times directors have pull for a girl as the winner. If you have a terrible reputation as a person and contestant the director may not want to work with you as a title holder, even if you do have the highest score. Again, this is not true for all systems.

5. In some cases you need to do a certain amount of time in the system to win a title. This is one way for this system to get to know you. One national competition had girls finally win after three years of competition. This shows perseverance and determination.

6. Interview can win or lose a pageant. I have seen many girls who are incredible onstage and do not win. Why? Interview. If you speak with most of them, they will tell you they did not have a good interview. So if this is your daughter, look at what she needs to do to improve in that area.

7. Pageants are businesses and financial support can help. In some cases if your family “donates” enough to the organization you may be the winner.

8. Final ballots can be deterring. All it takes is one judge to score you low and you may lose the title. For example if you have all 1st places and someone puts you 5th, this could bring your score down enough to be looking at the crown and not wearing it.

Why then do you ask people to do pageants if this is the case? Many pageant systems are reputable and have exemplary business practices. The reason to do them is for you, not a judge. Only one person can win a crown; yet, if you leave feeling more confident, prepared to interview, having an amazing platform which helped many people and learned something then you will always win!
